Frequently Asked Questions

What our guests want to know.

A fasting program is healthy, strengthens the immune system, acts as an energy booster, and can also be used as therapy for various health conditions.

Some well-known fasting programs were developed from therapeutic approaches of individual physicians, such as the Buchinger alkaline fasting program. In this method, only liquid foods such as juices, soups, or purées are consumed. Thus, the Buchinger method is a typical juice or soup fasting program. Another well-known approach in Austria was developed by F. X. Mayr, in which each bite is chewed 30–40 times and swallowed with tea.

All fasting methods share the principle of food reduction, abstaining from meat and fish, and following a regulated meal rhythm. Which fasting program is best for you depends partly on personal preferences, but also on your individual constitution and health. Therefore, every fasting program should be coordinated with a physician.

At Marienkron, you can choose from 5 fasting programs:

Studies show that the greatest effect of fasting is achieved within the first 7 days; beyond that, the positive health impact does not significantly increase. A 7-day fasting program with a guided 3-day refeeding phase can therefore already provide noticeable health benefits.

Even more important than the duration of fasting, however, is the interval – according to current studies, two weeks of fasting per year are ideal to achieve a sustainable health effect.

Intermittent fasting is the only form of fasting that can also be practiced over a longer period of time.

In this method, a daily fasting window without food intake of 16 hours (or 14 hours for women) is observed. The most beneficial rhythm begins in the afternoon/early evening – also known as dinner-canceling. Depending on personal daily routines, breakfast can also be skipped, although the positive effects are then slightly reduced. As the only medically safe long-term form of fasting, intermittent fasting can also serve as an impulse for weight reduction.

From a medical point of view, water fasting or zero-calorie fasting is strongly discouraged! Due to the extreme lack of calories and nutrients, it can lead to muscle loss and villous atrophy in the intestine – resulting in harmful effects on the body.

At Marienkron, you can choose from five different types of fasting:
