Fasting is a centuries-old tradition. At Kurhaus Marienkron, we combine more than 50 years of experience as a Kneipp and fasting center with scientific expertise.

Our fasting tips 2022 collected as blog posts

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent – a time of reduction and focus on what truly matters. A pause from the hectic pace of daily life and the constant “too much.” During this season, we accompany you with weekly fasting tips and impulses from Kurhaus Marienkron and the Abbey on Facebook & Instagram. In this blog, we gather our posts so you can always revisit them at a glance. Surely, there is something inspiring for you too. :-)

1: Fasting means reduction to the essentials

That does not mean giving up good taste.

2: Soup day – for fasting and gentle reduction

Soups warm from within and provide energy and nutrients. Have you ever tried a soup day at home? Grain soups, vegetable-potato purée soups, or clear vegetable broths are quick to prepare and taste wonderful. Our Marienkron cookbook offers recipes and instructions for you. :-)

3: Hydration is essential when fasting

It doesn’t always have to be plain water. Teas are especially beneficial! They contain valuable ingredients and support the body from within. At Marienkron, our fasting tea is a gentle companion during your fasting days. It soothes the digestive tract and has a draining and detoxifying effect thanks to nettle.

4: Baked apple recipe

Enjoy this classic fasting dish at home:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C (top/bottom heat).
  2. Use an apple corer to remove the stem and core.
  3. If you like, chop about 10 g of nuts and fill the apple with them.
  4. Place the apple on a baking tray and bake for 10–15 minutes, depending on size.
  5. Remove, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with cinnamon, and enjoy.

5: The liver compress for at home

  1. Place a large towel on a folded blanket.
  2. Spread the blanket across the bed. Lie on your back on the blanket (it should cover from your armpits to your hips).
  3. Put a damp small towel on the right upper abdomen and place a hot water bottle on top – careful, not too hot!
  4. Wrap the towel and blanket snugly around you, layer by layer.
  5. Rest for 30 minutes and relax.

6: Fasting crisis – how to cope

Preparation is key: begin with light meals before fasting. Drink plenty and get regular fresh air. To stimulate circulation, try a teaspoon of honey, a stimulating herbal tea, Kneipp applications, and sufficient fluids. Peppermint oil massaged into the temples and neck works wonders against headaches. For fatigue or chills, slip into bed with warm socks and a hot water bottle. Take your time to rest and recover.
